Men in military uniforms yesterday, March 7, stormed the Okochiri palace of former Niger Delta Leader, Ateke Tom leaving 1 youth dead, three of his dogs killed and properties damaged.
Ateke is the current Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom, in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It is unclear why the alleged Military Men took the swipe on the his palace but the attack is coming just two days to the governorship and state houses of assembly elections in Rivers State.

Reacting to the attack, President of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), worldwide, Mr. Pereotubo Oweilaemi, said that “it is not only barbaric, it is sacrilege that should be condemned by every well meaning Nigerian.”
In a facebook post, the IYC leader wrote:
The unprovoked invasion of the Palace of our revered King, His Royal Majesty, King Ateke Tom at Okochiri town in Rivers State by soldiers deployed on election duty. The said act of aggression is not only barbaric, it is sacrilege that should be condemned by every well meaning Nigerian.
IYC cannot comprehend why the Ijaw people are made the scapegoat of the FG Government’s desperation in deploying military to rig the elections? Only recently on 23rd f February, 2019, the Ijaw nation lost many of her promising youths to soldiers invasions in Rivers and Bayelsa states.
The invasions and ransacking of the house of the King is the worst form of atrocity committed against tradition our rich transition. The Ijaw nation, views the action of the marauding as a declaration of war against against us.

You may recall that His Royal Majesty, Ateke Tom, embraced amnesty in 2008 after commanding militants in the Niger Delta Region for Years.
He was then made ruler of Okochiri Kingdom in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
