“Those that are calling for everyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that will come and intervene. They will go back in body bags. Because nobody will come to Nigeria and tell us how to run our country.
These were the exact words of the Kaduna Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai when he appeared on an NTA show titled TUESDAY LIVE on Tuesday, 5 February, 2019
El-Rufai further said:
“We’ve got that independence and we are trying to run our country as decently as possible and we know the history of those countries that are trying to teach us these things; we have read their history. We also know that in their stages of development they went through these challenges.
“So, please, let’s work together; let’s advise one another but don’t lecture us.”
Clearing the air on this speech, El-Rufai in a statement signed by his spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, El-Rufai explained that he was only defending the dignity of Nigeria, that is his reason for threatening the foreigners.
Read the statement below:
“When Malam Nasir El-Rufai appeared on NTA’s Tuesday Night Live, he made comments every patriot can understand. He stood up for Nigeria’s dignity in the wake of those who would traduce their country and reduce it to the status of a colony in their vain quest for power.
“The video of his comments is in circulation. Any fair-minded person with modest familiarity with the English language and unimpaired comprehension can understand it. It does not contain any call for violence. What it is a powerful defence of sovereignty. Are some sections of our political class implying that they will acquiesce in or collaborate with foreign intervention in our country?

“Affirming that a country will defend itself against needless intervention is the kind of statement you expect to hear from a patriot. It is not a call for violence. Warning about the consequences of meddling in another country’s affairs is legitimate,” .
El-rufai is a die hard supporter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), and President Muhammadu Buhari, the North-west governor is seeking re-election bid in the 2019 gubernatorial election in his state and is also been criticized for choosing Dr. Hadiza Balarabe , a Muslim as his running mate.
In reaction, Governor El-Rufai said that his choice of Dr. Hadiza Balarabe as his running mate is based on her competence and antecedents and that even if he chose the pope, Kaduna Christians won’t vote for him.
