The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resheduled the Presidential and national assembly elections that were initially slated for today till next week Saturday.
This new deveopment was made known after an important meeting by all national commissioners of the commission with the INEC chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahood in attendance.
Arctic Reporters had earlier reported that their may be a shift in the elections following the burning of INEC offices in some states and also unbalanced distribution of election materials across the 36 states of the federation.
With the Postponement of the elections today, the gubernatorial and state assembly elections have also been altered and further shifted to March 9.
The INEC Chairman made this known in the early hours of Saturday at a short media briefing, though he never gave any explicit reason for the decision.
Professor Mahood during his media briefing said:
“Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan, and the determination to conduct free, fair, and credible elections, the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible”.
With this announcement by the commission, Nigerians are now at bay with whether or not they are to head to their various polling units today.
