Kaduna News: What Caused 66 Killings [as it happened]

66 persons where reportedly killed on Friday, 15 February 2019 across 8 communities in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to reports, the killings are a result of a revenge attack carried out by youths of  Angwan Barde, a community in  Adara.

The youths were reported to have carried out the killings because prior to their attack, on Sunday night precisely, gunmen attacked their community and killed eleven people, leaving several others injured.

In revenge, the irate youths stomed Ruga Bahago, Ruga Daku, Ruga Ori, Ruga Haruna, Ruga Yukka Abubakar, Ruga Duni Kadiri, Ruga Shewuka and Ruga Shuaibu Yau communities and left 66 people dead.

In a statement made available to newsmen by Samuel Aruwan, spokesman to Governor Nasir el-Rufai, a total of 22 children and 12 women lost their lives in the attack.

Four others were injured but are currently recuperating in a nearby Hospital, the statement said that security agencies have been deployed to the area to restore calm. It further revealed that arrests have been made and urged citizens not to take laws to their hands, asking them to always report cases of threat and attacks to appropriate security forces rather than carry out revenge attacks which only leads to more deaths.

Aruwan said that those who have been fingered in the attack, would be charged to court and prosecuted. He further called on citizens and residents of the state to ensure that the elections today are smooth and peaceful.
