Breaking: Akpabio Approaches Election Tribunal, Reveals Why He Lost

Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, for Akwa-Ibom North-West senatorial district in the February 23, National Assembly elections has submitted a suit to the election tribunal sitting in Akwa-Ibom.

The suit was submitted by the lawyer to the former governor of the state, Sunday Ameh SAN, on Saturday, 16 March, 2019.

Mr. Ameh said the reason for submitting the counter suit was because his client, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was robbed off his victory in the election.

He stated that it was only possible for the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Christopher Ekpenyong, to defeat Senator Godswill Akpabio because the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the state collaborated with PDP stake holders in the senatorial district.

As you may know, results announced by INEC have it that Akpabio conceded defeat by polling only  83,158 votes against Ekpenyong’s whooping 118,215 votes.

However, Mr. Ameh said that true figures from INEC’s office saw Akpabio polling 138,256 votes whereas Ekpenyong scored 123,843 votes.

He further stated that his client is not satisfied with the outcome of the election which he claimed was marred with gross irregularities and misconduct, hence warranting the suit filed to the tribunal.

It might interest you to know that Akpabio recently withdrew a suit still concerning the alleged election malpractices, which he earlier filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
