INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has explained why the name of the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, was not listed as one of the senator-elect by the commission.
You may recall that INEC had published the list of senator-elect from the February 23 national assembly elections on Thursday.
Addressing a press briefing yesterday, Yakubu explained that Okorocha was declared winner under duress as such the commission does not recognize him as a senator-elect.

Okorocha had contested to represent the people of Imo West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Upper chambers under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Althoug, His name was announced as winner of the election by the Returning Officer, Innocent Ibeawuchi, but Mr. Innocent later rescinded his announcement, stating that he did so under duress.

Among the three senatorial zones in Imo state, only Imo East Senatorial district was a winner announced and confirmed by INEC, that is, Onyewuchi Ezenwa Francis.
For Imo North Senatorial district, INEC said supplementary elections will be held.
