From Coconut-Pear hawking to Imo state Governor’s House – Joseph Oluochma

On Sunday the 21st of June 2020, while the world was busy celebrating the Fathers’ day with their families and loved ones, a young man’s life was been shaped and remolded for greater things, as the day could not end before God blessed and threw Master Joseph Oluomachi Opara on a pathway to greatness.

It was a reward for talent, for this young talented hawker, whom prior to this time, works round the entire Owerri Metropolis and beyond, just to ensure he reaches a sale target of what ever products he is selling for the day. This young boy’s life changing moment came after a video of him singing a popular gospel song, with a trail filled with pear, that he was selling made it to social media.

After the video got into the internet, the entire south east and the Nation has reached out to him with a lot of gift items. The Imo state governor Distinguished Senator Hope Uzordinma has adopted the boy, given him money and promised to give him a scholarship to any seminary school of his choice, as his long life dream is to grow up in the vineyard of the lord as an ordained catholic priest. The superior General of a seminary school in Bende S.M.M.M, Rev. Father George Okorie, has offered him scholarship to study in their own seminary school. The Vice-Presidential Aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party, in the just concluded general election, Governor Peter Obi, commended the boy’s talent and zeal to make something great out of his life and assured the boy that he will be there to support his every step should he accept the scholarship offer from Rev. Father Okorie, as contained in a series of tweet thread after the video went viral on the 21st of June, 2020.

However their kind gesture have not been taken kindly by critics, as so many have asked that they both seek for other talents without help in the south south and south eastern Nigeria. A priest and a residence of Imo state, Father Godswill Agbawa, wrote an open letter to the governor, commending his efforts for taking up the task of been a father figure to Master Oluomachi, while advising him that there are a lot of kids who have the same case and needs help urgently, most of this boys are very talented, and are willing to work or study should the opportunity present itself, the kids are in need of of quality education, hence the governor should try to fix the educational system to allow this young talents have access to quality education, within the state in other to secure their future, else the governor will need to adopt the entire suffering kids of Imo state- he said.  So many replies followed the former governor’s tweet some where showing him other raw talents while others commended his efforts.
