The United Kingdom has recognized President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of the Presidential Election whose results where announced yesterday, Wednesday 27 February 2019.
Affirming the victory, UK Minister of State for Africa, Harriett Baldwin, congratulated the President for securing re-election.
In her words:
“I offer my congratulations to President Buhari on securing a second term as the Nigerian President.
The UK Minister however expressed willingness by her country to strengthen ties with Nigeria
“The UK is a long-standing friend and partner of Nigeria and the Nigerian people, and a stable and prosperous Nigeria benefits Africa and the world.”

She also said the Results announced by INEC is in line with tabulations obtained by the civil society Parallel Vote process.
However, she called on aggrieved candidates to seek redress following legal means, and within the confines of the law.
Mrs. Baldwin who has been the Member of Parliament for West Worcestershire since 2010 also condoled with the family of those who lost their during the elections.

She said it was not right for anyone to lose their life trying to express their constitutional rights.
In conclusion, the UK minister said The minister said the UK would continue to support Nigeria and its civil society in drawing lessons from the elections and strengthening its democracy.
