Xavi Announces Retirement

Spain and Barcelona legend Xavi Hernández has revealed plans to quit active football at the end of the current season.

According to AS.com, the 39-year-old Xavi told the press in Doha, he plans to become a manager after retiring as a football player.

“This is my last season as a player, but I am looking forward to see what the future holds for me as a manager,” noted the former Barca captain, who bows out on a high after winning the Qatar league this term.

Xavi will be looking forward to bring his years of experience as a player to the touchline soon.

“My philosophy as a manager reflects the style that we developed for many years under the influence of Johan Cruyff and from La Masia and its main exponent is in the way Barcelona play.

“I love the see the teams that take the initiative on the field, attacking football and go back to that place we all loved since the days of our youth: possession football.”

Interestingly, Xavi, who featured in 769 games for Barcelona before arriving Qatar in 2015 also took out time to outline one of the major benefits he enjoyed as a football star.

“Football is a great tool to unite people and change lives for the better,” Xavi submitted, even as he seeks to add the Amir Cup and the Asian Champions League to his trophy cabinet.

At the last count, Xavi won eight La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys and four Champions League.

The Spaniard is also a World Cup winner, two-time European Cup champion alongside a host of other individual honours.
