The United Nations human right committee has called on social media platforms to use big data and artificial intelligence to help reduce the risk of human trafficking using social media, as investigation shows that they have been using chats apps and other social media platforms to recruit unsuspecting victims.
According to a tweet, released through the official handle of the United Nations; there is an increased rate of recruitment of human trafficking through the use of chat apps and social media, especially during this trying time of #COVID19. The United Nations human right committee has however called for greater efforts in terms of protecting women and girls from trafficking during the pandemic, they have also encouraged social media platforms to enhance their security and technology in other to be able to fish out and eliminate those who are involved in this crime.
