After months of speculations, Sony through its lead architect and console producer, Mark Cerny has now confirmed that the play station which will be a successor to the 2019 PlayStation 4 will be released in holiday 2020.
The new PlayStation 5 will be released with a one of a kind controller, the best controller so far since the history of PlayStation called “DualSense” controllers.
The Sony PlayStation is to be released with it very first PS5-exclusive game known as “Godfall”. The game console upon release will cost $500, which is slightly higher than the price of the PS4 when it was first released.
The PlayStation console is going to support 8k video, Dolby Atmos, dualsense controller, due to popular demand, the new game is coming with an internal SSD storage, compatible with PSVR.
The game is designed to be backward compatible, reviews shows that it going to play one hundred most popular PlayStation 4 games at launch, then after sometimes all PS4 games will be compatible and the other generation titles will only be supported via discs. However Sony is yet to confirm if PS4 controllers will work in PS5.
Console Design- It’s certainly a design change from the slanted PS4 with its, possibly vented, central flying V-shaped design. According to the design, the console is made up of five USB ports at the front possibly for headphones, controllers, hard drives and other accessories, there’s also an optical drive.
DualSense Controller- Sony is always coming up with new DualShock controller when releasing every new version/generation, however they made an exception for this version and went for a DualSense controller instead. DualSense is a sleek and modern-looking design with a two-tone finishing instead of the standard single hue of the DualShocks. Sony has promised that the new controller “will captivate more of the users senses as you interact with the virtual worlds in PS5 games.
The features of DualSense, along with PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, will deliver a new feeling of immersion to players”. The immersion is set to come across primarily through a more evolved sense of touch. The rumble technology was replaced by Haptics, to create a broader range of more realistic feedback. Players will get more nuanced sensations such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud. The L2 and R2 trigger buttons feature adaptive, programmable resistance so that players can feel more or less tension through certain actions.
The DualSense controller is wireless, and Sony is yet to confirm how long the battery will last from a single charge, but they said they tried to maintain a strong battery life”. Comes with a built in microphone array to allow players chat with their friends without the need for a gaming headset, share button has also been replaced with a “Create button” –which will allow gamers create epic gameplay contents sharable with the world. The shape and style of the new controller has been tweaked to match its new components. The game console still has so many other features yet to be revealed by Sony.
However before the outbreak of the pandemic, Sony has estimated to sell about six thousand unit of the PS5 console by March 2021, however achieving this might depend on the world’s economy after the pandemic. Although I know that game lovers cannot wait to explore more features of this masterpiece upon release by Sony Entertainment.
