Nigeria Decides: Election Begins for Presidential and N/Assembly Candidates

Elections for the Presidential and National Assembly candidates across the 36 states of the federation are most likely to have begun.

According to a statement by INEC national chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, elections are expected to begin by 8:00am today Saturday February 23, 2019.

71 candidates cut across various parties are contesting for the position of the Number one citizen of the country. The main contenders in the field are incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Congress, APC, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

other presidential candidates include:

Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC); Kingsley Moghalu of the Young Progressives Party (YPP); Sina Fagbenro-Byron of the KOWA Party; Fela Durotoye of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) and Obadaiah Mailafia of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Earlier this week, 12 presidential candidates from various parties dropped their ambition and declared support for President Muhammadu Buhari.

As you may know, the elections were postponed by one week after it was initially slated to hold last week Saturday, February 16.
