Sometimes last week internet were overly excited, when the secret romance between a corp member currently undergoing orientation and his trainer (A female military personnel) in the Yikpata Orientation camp in Kwara State, went from just secret romance to open engagement right in the orientation camp.
The Military (Army) however confirmed the arrest of the officer stating that she violated some major military rules by allowing herself to get involved with her trainee while on duty, hence she must be punished.
The state National Youth Service Corps office, the female officer and the corp member who engaged the officer are yet to comment on this matter.
The NYSC program is designed to help Nigerian graduates contribute their quota in Nations building by serving the Nation for a year and the soldiers sent to train this graduates are mandated not to get involved with any of them. The female officer got into trouble when the video recording of her marriage proposal from the corper went viral on social media.
According to the army spokesperson Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, her actions portrayals her as taking advantage of the male corper she was meant to train and that is against the order of the Military discipline. Stating that she openly disobeyed two rules from the Army guidelines, which includes social media show off and getting romantically involved while in uniform (On duty). Finally military officers are expected to serve for at least three years before they can be allowed to get married.
