ELECTION NEWS: Buhari, Atiku Sued For Campaign Spendings

The Presidential candidate of, Rescue Party of Nigeria (RPM), in the just concluded presidential election, Mr. Usman Ibrahim Alhaji, has sued both the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic party, Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar respectively for exceeding the one billion naira benchmark stipulated by INEC for presidential campaigns.

According to Channels TV,  the suit was  which was filed at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja seek that the court nullify the participation of Buhari and Atiku in the February 23 presidential poll.

Counsel to Usman, Ezekiel Ofor, on Tuesday, asked the court to invoke Section 91(2) of the Electoral Act, 2010 to negate the participation of Buhari and Atiku in the election for allegedly violating the electoral laws.

Usman said that he has proof that the both candidates exceeding the allowable expenditures for campaign by offering  financial inducements and solicitations.

He said that President Buhari used state resources which he rebranded as ‘Tradermoni’ to tacitly lure the electorate in exchange for their votes which can be likened to fraud, judging by Section 124 (1)(a);(b);(c); and Section 130 of the Electoral Act,”.

Judging on the matter, Justice Ahmed Mohammed had ordered that a service of court processes be served to President Buhari, Atiku and other defendants.

He furhter adjourned the matter to March 26 for more hearing.
