Beyonce’s new visual album, “Black Is King” represents and celebrates black people and culture all over the world.
It highlights “the journey of Black families, throughout time” and tells the story of one young king’s journey through betrayal, love and self-identity. Filmed as a companion to her 2019 “The Lion King: The Gift” soundtrack, “Black Is King” comes amid an increased cultural focus on the Black experience and the treatment of people of the African diaspora, most specifically African Americans.
The singer also made a heart warming post about “Black Is King” on her Instagram post, describing the visual album as a “labor of love”. “The events of 2020 have made the film’s vision and message even more relevant, as people across the world embarked on a historic journey,” she wrote. “We are all in search of safety and light. Many of us want change. I believe that when Black people tell our own stories, we can shift the axis of the world and tell our REAL history of generational wealth and richness of soul that are not told in our history books.”

She collaborated with African artists, including Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage and Ghanaian singer-songwriter Shatta Wale, to mention a few. Beyoncé, along with the dance scenes, poetic voiceovers and guest appearances by Kelly Rowland, Lupita N’yongo, Pharrell Williams, Naomi Campbell, Nigerian Singer- Yemi Alade and more illustrate the vast richness of Black artistry. And of course, Jay-Z, her husband was featured. He is seen riding in car at the back seat. There was also a scene where servants waited on him in a palatial estate. Using Disney, a brand that for years has been associated with beautiful White princesses and fairy tales, Beyoncé once again reminds the world of Black greatness in “Black Is King.”
