The Oldest Valentine Love Card in the world has been sold.
The handwritten love gift dates as far back as 1790, that is 230 years from today. The card had initially been tagged at a fixed price of 300 to 400 euros, but after biddings, it ended up been bought at £7,000 i.e N3,238,852.74 Nigerian Naira by Jakki Brown, 54.
The card was sold by Charles Hanson, of Hansons Auctioneers in Etwall, Derbyshire, England. Hanson said he discovered the card while he was reviewing a collection of Victorian and Georgian cards, sourced in the UK between 1949 and 1990.
He described the card as ‘torn and soft’. Expressing Happiness for winning the bid, Jakki Brown who is also the editor of a greeting card trade magazine in london said she was so excited and had even got insomnia (sleepless nights), over thoughts that she may be outbid buy another buyer prior to the today when the card was sold.
She described this very years valentine as a perfect example of ‘an enduring british tradition’, declaring that she has no intentions for re-selling the card.
Written in the finely packaged card are the words:
“Let me pray thee to be mine Any dear sweet valentine.
You are not sure my dearest dear of a valentine next year
Pray thee answer by a line if you will be my valentine”

The card is part of a collection which belonged to Lawrence Randle, a keen collector who died at the age of 88 in 2009.
