The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has appointed Dr. Joe Abah as member of the Steering Committee on Digital Identification, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha.
The Committee is tasked with the aim of establishing or giving Nigerians a digital Identity within the next 5-years.
They will integrate citizen’s data, held by the Government such as; BVN, Drivers License and Passports and NIMC/NIN among other data legally approved by the Federal Government.
This is another move by the president Buhari led administration to digitize the country, as digital identification is becoming a priority in global world.
Before his appointment, Dr. Joe Abah was the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms in Nigeria.
Under his leadership, he emphasiszed on the need for public service reforms to focus on tangible improvements in the lives of citizens, not just administrative reforms.
His Bureau has successfully intervened to make drivers licenses, passports, tax clearance certificates and national identification numbers easier to process and very obtainable.
